The late 40's leading into the 1950's are considered by many as the American auto industries "Golden Age". More luxurious, bigger, powerful and beautifully designed cars were common. And with the emergence of rock'n'roll the younger crowd had the perfect combination of cars for cruising and rock'n'roll for groovin'. Oldsmobile introduced the high compression V8 engine, which many other companies soon followed. However one car GM introduced in 1953 to try and compete with the smaller European imports was the smaller sporty Chevrolet Corvette. Ford not to be out done answered with their version the Thunderbird. The 50's also saw the last cars from the Packard Motor Company.
Cadillac of course led the way in the tail fins department, and the one car that took the tailfin craze to the limit was none other than the ever popular 1959 Cadillac Biarritz.
Our diecast cars of the 1950's show off the magnificent beauty and designs of these "Golden Age" cars.
Other diecast cars of this era can be found on our Franklin Mint Page and our 1:32 scale Page.
