American Motors Corp. shed its conservative image in the late sixties by releasing an impressive line of performance cars, led by the sporty two-seat AMX. The AMX name originates from "American Motors eXperimental," a code used on several early protoypes developed by AMC. The AMX was the first all steel-bodied production two-seat sports car built in America since the 1957 Thunderbird. Establishing itself as a competent performance car, the 1969 AMX was offered in a special, dealer prepared edition with a segmented paint scheme of red, white and blue.
